On October 25, AIA New York and COOKFOX were honored at “A Place at the Table,” the Ali Forney Center’s (AFC) gala at Cipriani Wall Street, in recognition of 2019’s Day of Service initiative.
The Ali Forney Center’s mission is to protect LGBTQ youths from the harms of homelessness and empower them with tools to live independently. AFC’s services include the provision of housing, medical care, counseling, meals, and more for thousands of youths in NYC. At AIANY’s Day of Service in May 2019, COOKFOX, in partnership with Clune Construction, led a volunteer effort to renovate one of AFC’s emergency residences in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The project was a renovation of the existing outdated kitchen, which included the provision of state-of-the-art cabinets, countertops, lighting, fixtures, appliances, and a backsplash.
Kavitha Mathew, AIA, LEED AP, Director of Leadership and Engagement Initiatives at AIANY, accepted the Bea Arthur Award on behalf of AIANY, COOKFOX, and all the additional partners and donors who worked on the Day of Service project for AFC.
Interested in participating in Day of Service 2020? AIANY is hosting an information session on Tuesday, November 19 at 8:30 am for those interested in leading a project. Please contact Kavitha Mathew at kmathew@aiany.org if you are interested in attending.
