On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, AIA New York hosted its 157th Annual Meeting, where members elected 2025 leadership and celebrated recent chapter achievements and award recipients. The evening is not only an opportunity for reflection and planning as an organization, but a touchpoint for community members and leaders to gather, reconnect, and be recognized.

After presenting on the state of the chapter, from program initiatives and advocacy to its financial health and membership, 2024 President Greg Switzer, AIA, NOMA, NCARB, turned over the podium to AIANY Board Secretary Mark Gardner, AIA, NOMA, who presented the amendments to chapter bylaws as well as the 2025 slate. Present AIANY members confirmed the committee’s slate without delay.

The Annual Meeting also served as a significant opportunity to recognize members of the architecture and design community for their local and regional contributions. A Service to the Institute Award bestowed on AIA New York managing director Suzanne Mecs, Hon. AIA NYS, was met with thunderous applause and a standing ovation for her over 27 years of service to AIA New York and to thousands of AIA members. Congratulations to all of the 2024 awardees:

  • Leadership in Housing Award: RKTB Architects, P.C.
  • Public Architecture Award: Bruce Eisenberg, FAIA, LEED AP, Director, New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)
  • Service to the Institute Award: Suzanne D. H. Mecs, Hon. AIA NYS, Managing Director, AIANY
  • Service to the City Award: Brooklyn, Queens, and New York Public Library Systems
  • Special Citation for Service to Women in Architecture: Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation

We congratulate incoming board and committee members and look forward to celebrating with you at the 2024 Board Inaugural in December!
