The Social Science and Architecture Committee was formed in January 2016 with the goal of bringing together professionals and students from architecture, social science, and other fields to discuss, collaborate, and facilitate programs for the community. The committee’s meetings and events offer a place to exchange ideas, address topics of interest to the attendees, and to plan AIA panels on related topics. The committee meets monthly and is open to anyone who would like to attend.
In 2018, the SSAC was awarded an AIA Committee Excellence Grant, enabling the creation of online resources that extend the work of the committee beyond the events themselves. This includes summaries of past events and a speakers bureau of experts who have contributed thought leadership to the community. These are organized around four themes at the intersection of social science at architecture:
Integrating Research and Design Practice
Social Science Methods in Action
Communicating Across Disciplines
Iterating on Science and Design
