Volunteer at A’18 Day of Service

As the A’18 Conference dates quickly approach, we would like to remind you about the Day of Service events planned for Saturday, June 23. This is a great opportunity to help a non-profit organization with much-needed upgrades to their facilities or assistance with their mission. This year, AIA New York is partnering with local firms and non-profit organizations on a range of projects. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to take part in each of these events. Volunteers will reconvene for a reception at the Center for Architecture sponsored by ConstructConnect.

Make your last day of A’18 meaningful!

• Working with CAMBA, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization providing services to New Yorkers in need, 1100 Architect is upgrading a supportive housing facility reception area, which will include a design charrette for a new reception desk, as well as painting and graphic wall treatments. Van service will be provided for volunteers by CAMBA between Center for Architecture and the site in Queens. Support provided by Clune Construction.
• Partnering with the Center Against Domestic Violence, Cannon Design and Stalco Construction are upgrading the finishes for a temporary shelter community room in Brooklyn. Volunteers will meet at the Center for Architecture and be escorted via public transportation to the site.
• Volunteer with FXCollaborative for this half-day mobile market event organized by City Harvest. Meet at the Center for Architecture and take public transportation to a site in Washington Heights to help distribute thousands of pounds of fresh produce to eligible market-goers.
• Join James Wagman Architect, with assistance from SilverLinings, Inc; Gensler; CBBLD; and Walter B. Melvin Architects; on this ambitious multi-space upgrade to the Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Spaces to be renovated include the service kitchen and a large multi-purpose room.
• Murphy Burnham & Buttrick has joined forces with Edible Schoolyard NYC to identify a public school in need of new structures to accommodate their growing garden. New bean tunnels, planters, and a design charette for a rainwater collector are part of the plan for this East Harlem site.
• The I Have a Dream Foundation supports students throughout their school years, and Perkins Eastman is supporting them by sprucing up their youth community space in Chelsea with new paint and flooring. Additional support provided by Clune Construction.
