AIA NEW YORK CHAPTER, THE ARCHITECT'S NEWSPAPER AND HAFELE AMERICA LAUNCH 2006/07 NEW PRACTICES SHOWCASE: CALL FOR MINI-PORTFOLIOS

The AIA New York Chapter and The Architect's Newspaper in association with Hafele America Co. announce the New Practices Showcase. The Showcase will complement the New Practices Roundtable, a quarterly program that provided practical resources for new architectural firms in areas of business practice, technology, and marketing. This showcase program will identify (6-8) new practices and highlight their respective achievements in a group exhibition at the Center for Architecture in July. An installation of all the portfolios submitted will accompany the group exhibition. Following the exhibition at the Center, a quarterly exhibit and reception will be held for each of the practices selected at the Hafele Showroom beginning in September 2006. Two firms per quarter will be featured. Honorees will be announced at the AIA New York Chapter's Annual Meeting on June 20, 2006. Each winner will receive an honorarium of $1,000 as compensation for exhibition expenses as well as membership to AIA for one year.

Registration opens Thursday, March 23rd

Participating firms must register by May 22, 2006. Please make payment and registration online at www.acteva.com under the event title "New Practices Showcase." Processing Fee is $50 per firm.

Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation number which will serve as the registration number. Please place this number on the outside top right corner of your portfolio.

Call for Mini-Portfolios for New Architectural Practices

Participating firms should submit a 10-page bound 8.5" x 11" Mini-Portfolio plus cover.

Advanced Registration is required as described above. Please note that all portfolios submitted will be included in the installation at the Center for Architecture galleries.

Portfolio Review

Portfolios will be evaluated by the following Review Committee of the New Practices Roundtable and Showcase: William Menking, Editor, The Architect's Newspaper (Chair of Review Committee); Susan Chin, FAIA, Past President, AIA New York Chapter and Assistant Commissioner, Department of Cultural Affairs, NYC; Winka Dubbledam, Archi-tectonics; Martin Finio, AIA, Principal, Christoff:Finio; and Gregg Pasquerelli, SHoP; 6 - 8 Firms will be selected for participation in the showcase. Selected firms will be required to provide a graphic presentation of their work for display at the AIA Center for Architecture and the Hafele Showroom at 25 E26th St. (Requirements to be determined.)
